apadana house

Edmonton, AB

2,043 m²

Schematic

This project envisions the refurbishment and re-development of an existing women's housing apartment. Originally known as Rosary Hill, the original 2-storey manse was built in 1904 and a two and a half storey addition was built in 1924 as a nun's residence.

The existing 28 bed-sitting rooms will be converted into 18 self-contained studio, one-bedroom units and two-bedroom units with ensuites and kitchenettes. An addition will provide 10 new units to the site, including 2 accessible units that will connect to the existing building's new amenities and common areas.

The addition also transforms the site by creating two distinct barrier-free and sheltered courtyards for outdoor living and enjoyment.
